WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
Dr. David Roberts
We are experienced UK academics, concerned with the Teaching Excellence Framework, teaching innovation, active learning and student engagement. We have transformed how we use PowerPoint in line with Multimedia Learning (MML) scholarship so we stop overloading with words and start privileging large, high-quality imagery, because an apposite picture still paints a thousand words. Ongoing research tells us this method helps students understand, engage with and recall academic material better than text-heavy slides.
We've provided some examples in the 'how it looks' section, below. The method needs only a few extra 'clicks', and transforms 'Death by PowerPoint' into award-winning lectures. We can show you how to do this easily, quickly and effectively, whether your audience consists of students, peers, research and grant bodies, administrators or management. The method will help colleagues create genuinely memorable lectures, and help them engage successfully with external benchmark agencies into the future.
HOW IT LOOKS
The short video just below and to the left talks you through the idea. There's also a TEDx talk I did on this in December 2016, just next to the first video. The images (below) are examples we use to help communicate complex messages, stimulate active learning in large group lectures, sustain engagement and support key learning outcomes.
"HAVING THIS POWERPOINT-Y APPROACH DEMONSTRATED LIVE WAS VERY COMPELLING"
'Terrific presenter, very useful and inspiring'
REFRESHING APPROACH TO PRESENTATIONS, FEELING ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THIS APPROACH... HE WAS A VERY GOOD SPEAKER... ENGAGING AND RECEPTIVE TO THE AUDIENCE AND WHAT THEY WANTED
Most engaging and kept attention. Aware of our reality in the classroom... The idea seemed almost obvious after he had pointed it out... Really liked that he was so open to engage in a critical discussion of what he was presenting... I found the session very helpful and interesting. The slides were captivating and immediately drew my attention... to the power of using images... David’s presenting style was very easy to follow and engage with... The presentation was very interesting and forward thinking. It gave me confidence to be braver.
"ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING LECTURER, FANTASTIC TO LISTEN TO"
The way he produces his lectures is phenomenal. He's probably the best lecturer I've ever had
OUR TIME WITH DAVID HAS BEEN A BIG HELP, AND ALREADY I FIND
MYSELF THINKING ABOUT AND APPEALING TO STUDENTS' VISUAL SENSE TO HELP
David is a gem!
LIKE AN OASIS IN THE DESERT
Looking forward to more
Really enjoyed it.. lots of things to think about. Many thanks :)
We can help you use images to convey the meaning of your work in innovative, appealing and interesting ways. We must increasingly be able to summarize and communicate our research agenda, methods and outcomes to a widening audience. In addition to expert peer review, we must be able to present our work clearly to non-specialist academics, to charities, and to think-tanks, to name a few.
In addition, we must show evidence of dissemination, and of impact in and on society. Our research funds are increasingly scrutinized by a wider public, and we must be able to help
them understand what we do, clearly. We can help you with this.
The jobs market is increasingly competitive; you need a way to distinguish yourselves from your competitors and gain the engagement and respect of potential employers. Showing who you are and what you can do this way marks you out, is innovative and allows a connection between you and your potential employer that might otherwise not happen

Support visual teaching provision by providing copyright-safe images to order
We will create decks of visual slides for any purpose. When you need a 'killer' presentation for a sales pitch, a business convention or any other event where you need to get a message across strikingly, engagingly and memorably, call us.
Or, if you'd like to discuss how we could help you, we'd be pleased to hear from you by email. We come to institutions around the UK and further afield and hold demonstrations, 'how-to' workshops and offer
technical guidance for those interested in more advanced aspects
